49ers vs. Rams DraftKings Showdown 2026: Shawn Childs’ Matchup Breakdown
By Shawn Childs · updated September 10, 2026

In the first showdown game of the season at DraftKings, there were two significant injuries (Sam Darnold and A.J. Brown), changing the outcome of this slate quickly. The highest-placing team with Drew Lock ($7,400) finished 153rd, with two game managers entering the same lineup. There were 23 matching rosters that tied for first place, leading to a $54,065.22 check for each winning ticket.
In tonight's matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia, the Rams are 3.5-point favorites with an over/under of 48.5. These two teams played two times in 2026 (SF won 26-23 in Los Angeles; LAR won 42-26 on the road).
Quarterbacks
Matthew Stafford ($14,700/$9,800) comes off a dominant year where he led the NFL in passing touchdowns (46) while ranking second in quarterback scoring (364.38 – 21.43 per game) at DraftKings. His season ended with 10 outcomes higher than 20.00 fantasy points, with two coming against San Fran (27.56 and 26.60).
The 49ers had multiple injuries on their defense, leading to them ranking 19th in fantasy points allowed at 302.80 in DK scoring. They allowed over 20.00 fantasy points to the quarterback in two other games (21.68, 27.24, 23.88, and 23.00).
Brock Purdy ($14,100/$9,400)
Injuries led to Purdy missing eight games last season, while not offering winning fantasy value until a three-game stretch from Week 15 to Week 17 (28.20, 31.90, and 37.92). The Rams added an elite pass rusher (Myles Garrett) in the offseason, along with coaxing Aaron Donald (who won’t play in this game) out of retirement. Los Angeles finished 14th last year in quarterback defense (278.92 fantasy points), with two teams scoring over 25.00 fantasy points (31.04 and 25.52).
Running Backs
Christian McCaffrey ($15,900/$10,600)
McCaffrey finally lost his injury tag this week, putting him on track to start in the game. His limited practice should lead to the 49ers rotating in another back more than expected in this game. He comes off the highest fantasy scoring year (416.60) of any player in the NFL in DraftKings scoring, while delivering 12 outcomes (70.6%) of 20.00 fantasy points or higher, four of which reached the 30.00 fantasy-point mark. Against the Rams, he scored 27.90 and 17.60 PPR fantasy points.
Los Angeles ranked 11th last season in running back defense (346.50 fantasy points), with failures in four matchups (34.10, 31.70, 40.80, and 42.20). McCaffrey’s biggest strike last year was gaining only 3.8 yards per carry.
Kyren Williams ($12,900/$8,600)
Last year, Williams scored twice in each game against the 49ers, leading to two productive fantasy days (33.10 and 22.40). He gained 215 combined yards with 10 catches on 38 touches. His best receiving game (8/66/2) of his career came in Week 5 vs. the 49ers. On the season, the Rams gave Williams under 15 carries in 13 of his final 17 contests, which has led to more fantasy life in Blake Corum’s fantasy outlook in 2026. The Rams' lead running back has also scored two touchdowns in two other matchups against San Francisco across three starts.
The 49ers slipped to 19th in running back defense (302.80 DK fantasy points), with eight opponents scoring at least 20.00 fantasy points.
Blake Corum ($6,900/$4,600) is a running back on the rise, but Kyren Williams remains more than worthy to keep him away from a starting job. The Rams had the backup runner on the field for more than 38% of their snaps only once last year, while settling in at about 37.6% of snaps over LA’s last three games in the postseason. From Week 13 to Week 16 (14.10, 26.10, 13.10, and 13.10), Corum has a floor of 13.10 fantasy points.
The 49ers should give Jordan James ($2,000) and Kaelon Black ($3,000) some touches, but it will be challenging to gauge their fantasy value and opportunity with minimal NFL resumes.
Wide Receivers
Puka Nacua ($16,800/$11,200) is the highest-priced player in tonight's showdown, which requires him to score at least 23.00 PPR fantasy points to be worth his salary. Last year, he averaged 23.56 DK fantasy points, showcasing a player who is priced at his expected value, which tends to be rare in the DFS showdown market. Nacua produced two steady performances (10/85 and 5/64/1) against San Fran in 2025, but neither was worthy of a captain starting investment in this contest.
He scored over 20.00 DK fantasy points 10 times in the regular season, with four resulting in impact games (13/170/1, 7/167/2, 9/181, and 12/225/2). Twice in the postseason (10/111/1 and 9/165/1), Nacua delivered impact showings.
San Francisco gave up 550.10 PPR fantasy points to wide receivers last season, with three offenses scoring over 50.00 PPR fantasy points (52.80, 55.40, and 57.10).
Davante Adams ($13,800/$9,200) ranked ninth in wide receiver scoring (222.90) last season despite sitting out the Rams' final three games with a hamstring issue. He scored over 20.00 fantasy points in five of his first 12 matchups despite lacking overall chemistry with Matthew Stafford. His 14 touchdowns accounted for 37.7% of his fantasy points. Adams had two steady games (5/88 and 6/77/1 on 19 targets) against the 49ers.
The rest of the Rams’ wideouts will have minimal chances.
Mike Evans ($12,300/$8,200) makes his first start for San Francisco, but his practice time was limited this summer due to an adductor issue. He comes off the worst season of his NFL career, while bringing a Hall of Fame NFL resume. His skill set should be a good fit in the 49ers’ offense, and I expect him to play well with Brock Purdy delivering the ball to him.
The Rams had risk in the secondary last season (24th in PPR fantasy points allowed – 572.80), which they hoped they addressed in the offseason by closing the quarterback’s passing window and signing CB Trent McDuffie (24/247/4 on 48 targets in 2025 per RotoWire). Five teams scored over 40.00 PPR fantasy points from their wide receivers vs. Los Angeles in 2025.
Deebo Samuel ($10,500/$7,000) looks overpriced based on his play in 2025 with the Commanders, but he does have experience in the 49ers’ offense. His success hinges on the development and opportunity of incoming rookie De’Zhaun Stribling ($9,900/$6,600), who had a great camp. He is being treated as a 10.00 PPR fantasy point player out of the gate by DraftKings.
Tight Ends
George Kittle ($11,100/$7,400) comes into Week 1 off an Achilles injury, but he is expected to play in Week 1. His snaps could be limited in this matchup. He scored over 20.00 DK fantasy points four times (23.40, 24.70, 22.80, and 24.50) over the 49ers' last eight matchups, with the first outcome coming vs. the Rams.
Los Angeles struggled in two games (26.90 and 28.80) last year against tight ends. They finished 11th in tight end fantasy defense (205.50 fantasy points allowed).
The Rams’ tight ends were active in their passing games in 2026, leading to a combined 103 catches for 1,128 yards and 17 touchdowns on 150 targets. Most of their success came over the Rams’ final 11 games.
On the downside, Los Angeles has the ability to rotate in five tight ends. I expect a Rams tight end touchdown tonight, with Colby Parkinson ($5,400/$3,600) and Terrance Ferguson ($4,800/$3,200) most likely to hit paydirt. Tyler Higbee ($3,900/$3,600) brings veteran experience, and he could get in the way in this matchup at tight end.
