Jameson Williams — 2026 Fantasy Outlook
Analysis by Shawn Childs, from his 2026 guide — his words, unedited.
The case
- · Williams ranked 10th in PPR fantasy points (220.70) in 2025, up from 21st (213.50) in 2024.
- · Despite his success over the past two years, early drafters rank Williams as an early WR3 in 2026.
- · The Lions gave Williams lower-than-expected opportunity across his first seven games last season (4/23, 2/108/1, 2/43, 2/40, 1/9, 6/66/1, and 0/0), leading to only 17 catches for 290 yards and two scores on 28 targets.
- · Over his final 10 starts, Williams scored over 15.00 fantasy points in six games (4/66/1, 6/119/1, 4/97/1, 7/139/1, 7/103, and 7/134/1) while averaging 7.2 targets.
Question marks
- · The Lions failed to get Williams the ball in Week 7 (no targets) and Week 12 (three targets), which tends to crush fantasy lineups.
- · He had five targets or fewer in seven games.
- · Will Detroit give Williams a more consistent week-to-week opportunity in 2026?
- · Does Sam LaPorta regain his rookie form? If so, does that push Williams to the Lions’ fourth offensive weapon behind Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown?
Shawn's conclusion
For fantasy teams looking for an edge at WR4, Williams brings that explosive feel for the drafters who want to be wide receiver deep out of the gate. His skill set paints a higher profile than his overall opportunity, but early drafters are punishing him based on his bad days in 2025. His floor has been set over the past two years (58/1,062/8 and 65/1,129/7 with two missed games in 2024), leaving a gap to be an 80-catch wideout this year. I’m buying at his current ADP in the NFFC.
More on Williams
Williams barely factored into Ohio State's passing game across his freshman and sophomore seasons, totaling just 15 catches for 266 yards and three touchdowns before transferring to Alabama. The move paid off immediately — he erupted for 79 catches, 1,572 yards, and 15 touchdowns, including four explosive performances over a five-game stretch (10/160/1, 6/158/3, 8/190/3, and 7/184/2). From Weeks 10 through 13, he averaged a staggering 25.0 yards per catch, hauling in 23 receptions for 575 yards and eight scores. His momentum was then cut short by a torn ACL in his left knee in early January 2022.
The appeal of Williams as a big-play weapon is easy to see. He has the speed to blow past deep coverage and the ability to turn short throws into long touchdowns. His areas needing development were his release off the line and his effectiveness in the short and intermediate portions of the route tree. William came into the league with reliable hands but needed to add strength, and it's worth noting that two of the top five receivers in the 2022 draft ahead of him had played alongside him at Ohio State.
His rookie season amounted to no fantasy value. Detroit kept him on the field for just 78 snaps, and he caught one pass for 41 yards and a touchdown on nine targets.
A gambling-related suspension wiped out the first four games of 2023, and Williams never fully got rolling after returning. Across 12 games, he caught 24 of 42 targets for 354 yards and two receiving touchdowns, adding three carries for 29 yards and a rushing score. Detroit gave him only 28 touches over his first nine games back (218 combined yards with three touchdowns), followed by 17 catches for 286 combined yards with two touchdowns on 25 targets over his final six games.
2024 was the breakout his talent had long promised. Williams averaged 17.3 yards per catch, racking up 17 receptions of 20-plus yards — six of which went for 40 or more. He set career highs across the board with 58 catches, 1,001 yards, and eight touchdowns, though a PED suspension cost him two games. His four best fantasy outings (24.40, 22.60, 26.00, and 24.70 points) included three games topping 100 yards (5/134/1, 4/126/1, and 5/150/1), and after Week 10, Williams posted a floor of at least 9.40 fantasy points in each of his final nine appearances.
Williams was a frustrating fantasy ride over his first five games in 2025 due to only one outing (2/108/1) being fantasy-relevant. Over this span, he caught 11 of his 21 targets for 223 yards and one score. Other than two no-catch games in Week 7 and Week 12, the Lions got him rolling in his other 10 matchups (54/905/6 on 76 targets), leading to him averaging 18.05 PPR fantasy points. Williams jumped to 10th in PPR scoring (220.70) for the year, with three winning days (6/119/1, 7/144/1, and 7/134/1). Despite his success, he had five targets or fewer in eight starts, leading to him having another gear to his ceiling.
