Brenton Strange — 2026 Fantasy Outlook

Shawn's rank: TE27Bye 7Updated July 30, 2026

Analysis by Shawn Childs, from his 2026 guide — his words, unedited.

Strange entered the NFL as a blocking-first tight end with quiet upside as a receiver. His pass-catching resume was limited coming out of college, but the tools were there: enough speed and route-running ability to threaten defenses down the seam and over the top, while his blocking gives him a clear path to the field on early downs.

Over his final three seasons at Penn State, Strange caught 69 passes for 761 yards and 10 touchdowns across 31 games. His rookie year in the NFL was a quiet introduction (5 catches for 35 yards and a touchdown on 9 targets).

His second season offered a glimpse of future upside. With Evan Engram sidelined in 2024, Strange topped 10.00 fantasy points four times (4/24/1, 5/59, 11/73, and 4/60), showing he can be a productive option when given the opportunity. The catch is that Jacksonville kept him on a short leash (four targets or fewer in 13 of his games), making consistency hard to come by.

With the lead tight end role in hand for Strange in 2025, he brought a TE2 fantasy profile into the season. Jacksonville gave him 23 targets over their first four games, leading to 19 catches for 182 yards and no scores. His season was derailed in Week 5 after one catch for 22 yards due to a hip injury, costing him five starts.

Down the stretch over eight matchups (including the postseason), Strange scored double-digit fantasy points in four games (5/93, 3/45/1, 5/39/1, and 6/52/1) while averaging 5.1 targets per game.

The Jaguars have depth and talent at the wide receiver position, which will lead to Strange being overlooked at times by defenses. At the same time, his overall opportunity should step back slightly due to some quiet weeks. I view him as serviceable based on his price point, while lacking explosiveness due to a low ceiling in touchdowns. I’ll set his bar at 60/650/4 until I take a deep dive into his projections.
