The case
- · Barkley has a lot in common with Jonathan Taylor as far as fantasy opportunity, except that he has a running quarterback who will snipe many in close touchdowns.

Shawn's conclusion
At age 29, Barkley still has juice in the tank, but he has had a wide range of outcomes from year to year since arriving in the NFL as a hot-shot rookie running back in 2018. To earn a top 5 running back ranking in 2026, he must score over 300.00 PPR fantasy points, a threshold Barkley has reached twice over eight years. 350 touches is well within reach, but he needs more touchdowns, big plays, and catches to reach my expectations. I like the Eagles’ offensive coordinator change, suggesting Barkley regains some of his lost fantasy momentum and becomes a second-round fantasy value.

Barkley opened 2023 with a statement performance in Week 2 (92 combined yards, two touchdowns, and six catches on 23 touches) before a right high-ankle sprain sidelined him for three games and nagged him for the rest of the year. He gutted through it, and New York rewarded him with 20 or more touches in six of his final 12 starts, generating 1,077 combined yards, eight touchdowns, and 32 receptions at 15.73 PPR points per game. His four best fantasy outputs were clustered in Weeks 2, 11, 14, and 18 (27.20, 30.00, 24.10, and 23.70), but he also posted four forgettable numbers over his final eight games (7.60, 6.20, 5.70, and 8.80). He finished 13th among running backs in PPR scoring at 225.70 points.
The move to Philadelphia in 2026 transformed him into one of the most dominant backs in recent memory. Barkley carried the ball with a career-best 5.8 yards per carry, ripped off 17 runs of 20 or more yards, and reached the 40-yard mark seven times. Philadelphia handed him 378 touches, and he turned them into 2,283 combined yards, the 13th most in NFL history. Barkley was on pace to shatter the single-season rushing record before the Eagles held him out in Week 18 to preserve him for the playoffs, where he added 574 combined yards, five touchdowns, and 13 catches on 104 postseason touches.
Jahmyr Gibbs edged him for the overall fantasy scoring title at 356.30 points, largely on the strength of a monster Week 18 (23/139/3 with five catches, a receiving score, and 31 yards), the game Barkley sat out. Still, the Eagles' feature back delivered seven elite fantasy performances (33.20, 33.60, 33.90, 33.80, 46.20, 39.20, and 31.20) and went over 200 rushing yards twice — both against the Rams (26/255/2 and 26/205/2).
For anyone investing in Barkley last year, they were paid only about 65 cents on the dollar based on his success in 2024. He had a sharp decline in his yards per rush (5.8 to 4.1) and his yards per catch (8.4 to 7.4), highlighted by him gaining 20 yards or more on only six plays compared to 21 in 2024. Surprisingly, Barkley scored over 20.00 points in only two matchups (14/150/1 with four catches for 24 yards and a touchdown, and 21/132/1). The Eagles gave him 317 touches, helping him finish 14th in PPR fantasy points (233.50).
