Jaxon Smith-Njigba — 2026 Fantasy Outlook

Shawn's rank: WR3NFFC ADP 5Bye 11Updated July 30, 2026

Analysis by Shawn Childs, from his 2026 guide — his words, unedited.

The case

  • · San Darnold was the key reason why Smith-Njigba became a more explosive player last year, highlighted by his 27 catches of 20 yards or more, with eight reaching the 40-yard mark. His yards per catch jumped from 10.0 to 11.3 to 15.1 over the past two years.
  • · Smith-Njigba had a floor of 90 combined yards over his first 11 games in 2025, setting an impressive fantasy floor. He reached that threshold only four more times (7/91/2, 7/113, 8/96, and 10/153/1) over his final nine starts.
  • · His catch rate (73.5%) was phenomenal considering his depth of catches and targets.
  • · He had double-digit targets in 10 of his 20 matchups.
  • · Darnold has 22 completions of 20 yards or more over the past two seasons, thanks to playing with two elite wide receivers (Justin Jefferson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba). He had 122 completions of 20 yards or more (17.8%).
  • · Seattle’s wideouts led the NFL in yards per catch (14.4) last year, but finished 12th in catches (201) and 18th in targets (290).

Question marks

  • · The Seahawks ranked 29th in the NFL in passing attempts (481), with Smith-Njigba accounting for 33.7% of those targets in the regular season.
  • · Seattle’s other wideouts combined for 82 catches for 1,090 yards and eight touchdowns on 127 targets.
  • · Their offense must finish more drives with touchdowns (51 in 2025) while settling for 48 field goal attempts. The Seahawks scored 92 times across their 186 possessions (49.5%).

Shawn's conclusion

Smith-Njigba gets open and catches the ball at a high rate. He can work the short areas of the field to move the chains while also taking the top off a defense. His direction is exciting, but repeated success probably requires Seattle to put a few more balls in the air. The Seahawks will look for him on a high percentage of passing plays, resulting in high impact (64.7%) and floor ratios (82.4%). Great fantasy building block, who looks under-projected by me in 2026.

More on Smith-Njigba

Some scouts dinged Smith-Njigba for his route running, quickness, and lack of elite straight-line speed coming into the NFL, but Seattle liked what they saw enough to spend a first-round pick on him in 2023. His hands were a strength, and he was smooth and natural in space after the catch. At the end of the day, he produces on the field, and that's what mattered most.

His 2022 season in college was essentially lost to a hamstring injury — just three games and empty box scores (5/43 on nine targets). It was his 2021 campaign at Ohio State (95/1,606/9 on 112 targets) that sold Seattle on his readiness, highlighted by five dominant performances (15/240/1, 9/139/1, 10/105/1, 11/127, and 15/347/3).

As a rookie, Smith-Njigba caught 63 of 93 targets (67.7%) for 628 yards and four touchdowns. His 10.0 yards per catch and just seven receptions of 20-plus yards pointed to a role that kept him close to the line of scrimmage. He reached double-digit fantasy points in six games (4/63/1, 3/36/1, 6/63, 7/62, 4/48/1, and 6/61), making him a viable flex option in only 35.3% of his matchups. Smith-Njigba was on the field for 64.2% of Seattle's offensive snaps.

2024 opened with mixed results — a strong Week 2 (12/117) surrounded by eight games of underwhelming production (31/271 on 46 targets). Smith-Njigba then broke out in Week 9 (7/180/2) and followed it immediately with another strong showing (10/118). A four-game productive stretch came next (4/79, 5/86/1, 10/83, and 8/100/1) before he faded to close the year (3/32 and 4/13). Seattle elevated him to a true WR1 workload (86.1% snap share), and his expanded role showed up in his consistency — double-digit fantasy points in 12 of 17 starts, six games with double-digit targets, and improved yards per catch (11.3). He finished 10th in wide receiver PPR scoring (253.35).

Greatness arrived in Smith-Njigba’s game and opportunity last season, helped by Sam Darnold’s ability to get him the ball in the deep passing game (15.1 yards per catch, with 27 catches of 20 yards or more, and eight reaching the 40-yard mark). He had a floor of seven catches or more in 13 of his 20 contests, highlighted by five impact showings (8/132/1, 8/162/1, 8/167/2, 7/92/2, and 10/153/1) and a floor of 18.00 PPR fantasy points in nine other matchups. Smith-Njigba gained 100 yards in 10 of his starts, leading to him ranking second in PPR fantasy points (361.00 – 20.54 per game).

In the high-stakes market, he ranks third at wide receiver, while coming off the board as the fifth player. I expect him to repeat his value in catches (120), but his receiving yards should have a pullback due to some regression in his yards per catch. His touchdown production should have another gear.
